Welcome to Glocal Solivagant!
It's more of a personal reason why I'm starting a travel blog. While I must admit that the other reason is to educate and promote local and global tourism, must-visit places and things you can do at each place, the primary reason being is to put all my travel experiences in some kind of travel diary that I can go back one day and reminisce the freedom, discovery, adventures (and misadventures) that travel has to offer.
So, before I begin to explain the source of my travel insipirations, I think I owe it to you my dear readers what the blog title is all about and what you can expect from this travel journal and guide..
What's with the blog name?
solivagant
noun so·liv·a·gant \sōˈlivəgənt\
: a solitary wanderer
I like to think that I am an explorer or wanderer of this world. I’ve been blessed with an insatiable wanderlust. I want to travel the world and experience everything it has to offer. When I was thinking of a blog name, it had to include this part of my personality. After deciding to write about my solo life adventures (more about that later), I started looking for a word that incorporated being a solo life traveler and that’s when solivagant appeared! Perfect!
glocal
adjective /ˈɡləʊk(ə)l/
: reflecting or characterized by both local and global considerations.
The word glocal is a portmanteau of global and local. While most of my recent travels were predominantly local and an exploration of the local tourism in the Philippines, I wanted my travel blog name to be "future-proof" since traveling outside of the country is after all part of my travel bucket list.
So, when I was contemplating for a blog name, I asked myself what really describes me as a traveler. I travel alone and usually with a backpack, so from there, I was prompted to look for the best word that describes such traveler. I came up with a few: backpacker, solo traveler, and finally, stumbled upon a rather new vocabulary - solivagant. I had no prior experience with the word, so I dig up a little bit just to be sure I was not just drawn by the peculiarity of the word. Without further ado, I was convinced it's the way to go and combining the words glocal and solivagant to come up with the title of the blog is a no-brainer.
Travel Inspirations
Traveling has been my way of discovering myself, exploring new places, and to break the monotony of my weekly existence. I used to travel during the weekend mainly to unwind and to get away from the four corners of my home office.
One day, I stumbled into these series of youtube videos that promotes the tourism in my city. From there, I managed to create my own itineraries and scheduled local places I was going to visit each week. Also, with the number of travel blogs available online that detailed their experience traveling and even provided tips and guides on what to prepare before going to certain places, it just made me more and more convinced that I was really meant to travel, at least while I still can.
How this blog will be structured
Each place I traveled to and explored will be categorized either as local or global, and perhaps, I will have to create subcategories that labels the cities, provinces, regions, countries, or whatever standard zoning standard as appropriate. As you can tell, I am still in the process of shaping up my blog but eventually I will make sure it's full of helpful content and interesting ideas to make it worth your while.
So, there you go. That's for a brief intro and hopefully, you'll join me and be inspired with my every travel adventures.
Don't forget to follow me on social channels and subscribe so you'll get the latest blog updates. Thank you and carpe diem!
